Cargolux Boeing 747 ends up in grass

2009 March 17
by Erwynn

Today we had a little excitement at Maastricht-Aachen Airport (EHBK), A Boeing 747-400 of Cargolux ended up in the grass besides the runway. After landing on runway 21 large aircraft are supposed to turn at the end of the runway at the therefor designated area. Somehow this crew managed to screw up the turn, for yet unknown reasons, and taxi into the muddy grass. The muddy grass, after weeks of rain, couldn’t support the aircraft and so got stuck in it.

The airfield was closed for six hours while the aircraft was prepared to be pulled out. For an airfield where normally nothing happens, this was quite exciting.

Didn’t bring my Nikon with me of course :)

PH-EMK alive once more….

2009 March 13
by Erwynn

After a few months in maintenance the C-172 PH-EMK went airborne again for a IFR Training flight.

The PH-EMK went into storage/maintenance after Thielert Aircraft Engines GmbH went bankrupt. The P-MK was used to keep the PH-EMJ and PH-NPT (also C-172’s) running by stripping usefull parts from it and place them on the other aircraft.

In mid-februari a new aero engine arrived for the P-MK. And after a rebuild of the stripped airframe she came to live again last week

After a few engine test runs and test flights it was released out of maintenance yesterday.

I was the lucky one to do the first operational post maintenance flight.

It was a IFR training flight to Geilenkirchen (ETNG) to do some PAR approaches, and it performed like a dream.

Welcome Back PH-EMK

No Camera….of course

The building next to our school is a Aircraft painting hangar, they repaint all sorts of Aircraft (A3xx, B737, B767 etc.)

2 days ago the made a wrong turn when pushing a Turkish Cargo B737 out of the hangar, right instead of left. The consequence was that there was a large 737 on the spot where our Cessna 172’s should be. An inconvenience, but fun to watch.

We also had the oppertunity to take a look inside, wich was also fun…and it looked quite impressive, although the interior was quite old.

I normally always carry my D70s camera with me, except of course on that day…

…so I made a few shots with my mobile phone, wich lacks sadly quality.

+ a shot of removing the snow from the C-Apron in the second week of january (also with mobilephone)

Live Is Life

Hi All,

It has been a while since I posted here, not that many will notice though…. :P

I’ve been quite busy with the last part of my ATPL theory. In December I have my last exams…the ones in October didn’t go so well….sadly :( . But I’m working hard and will be succesfull in December….after that I will have a well deserved to weeks holiday (I think, beginning to doubt it). All the reading and drawing I will be would able to do then….

I  started on a drawing of a Ju-88 attack on a small strategic village somewhere on the russian front, it  will be my first work that I will draw entirely on my own and not making use of photographs. I use the Il-2 Ju-88 as reference to try out various dramatic angles… it comes along quite nicely. I will post some progress later.

Cheers!
